PSAT/NMSQT Administration FAQ

Important Information

  • The PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to Marshall Juniors who have registered to take the test at no charge.
  • Due to health and safety considerations:
    • Grade 10 students will not participate in the PSAT/NMSQT this fall
    • Walk-ins will not be permitted to test
  • Required materials:
    • Photo ID (This can be a student ID or a driver’s license.)  
    • Face coverings (Students without face coverings will not be permitted to enter the building per fcps regulation.)
    • Approved calculator: Approved Calculators on the PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10
    • Two (or more) #2 pencils (preferably not mechanical pencils)
  • Recommended materials
    • Hand sanitizer
  • The check-in process will be updated as we get closer to the testing date
  • Leave all personal items, such as cell phones or other smart devices, at home or in your car

PSAT/NMSQT FAQs

Q. When/where is the PSAT/NMSQT?

  • The PSAT/NMSQT will be given on Thursday October 29th, 2020, at Marshall High School. Check-in process begins at 7:45am and doors close at 8:30am
  • This day will be an asynchronous school day for all high school students.

Q. Do I have to register to take this test with College Board?

  • No.  Students were required to register for the PSAT via the intent form sent to all Marshall Juniors and parents.  

Q. How long is the test?

  • The standard PSAT test is normally 2 hours and 55 minutes. Students who have a College Board approved extended time will test longer. Students who test with a standard time will finish around 11:30 to 12:00pm.  Students with 50% extended time should be done around 1:30pm.

Q. What should my student bring with them to the SAT School Day test?

Q. What is prohibited from testing?

  • You are not permitted to access any electronic “smart” device such as a cell phone or wearable technology during testing. We recommend that these items are left at home or in a car.   
  • Highlighters, colored pens, colored pencils, mechanical pencils
  • Pamphlets or papers of any kind

Q. Where should students park?

  • Students may park in spaces normally designated for student parking including, the lower lot by the stadium or in the parking lot behind marshall

Q. What procedures are being followed to ensure the safety of students?

  • All of FCPS, including the SAT Test Day, follows the guidance described in the FCPS Student Health and Safety Guidance Document.
  • Parents/Guardians are not permitted in the building and should remain in their cars. Only students who are testing are allowed to wait in the check-in line.
  • We also ask that testers and families do not socialize or linger in the building or parking lot. Social distancing and mask wearing is required to be practiced at all times on school grounds
