Principal's Message

January 7, 2021

Dear Marshall family,

What a winter break we have had!! I can’t wait to see our students back on Monday!

A few announcements:

  1. First, as you are aware, FCPS will continue in-person instruction. Our expectation is that unless a student is sick or has been identified as a close contact of someone who is COVID positive, they should come to school.
  1. I cannot stress to everyone how important it is that students and all who enter the doors of Marshall High School, always wear their masks, and wear them correctly. Due to the uptick in COVID cases in the area, we will have very little understanding for students who consistently demonstrate an inability to wear their mask. These students will be sent home until they can show they can follow FCPs mitigation strategies. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
  1. Marshall High School’s reported COVID numbers were low during break. I will be monitoring this data very closely over the next few weeks. I will provide weekly updates (at a minimum) about our data and keep you informed.
  1. Due to having no school this week, Saturday School is cancelled tomorrow, January 8th.
  1. We will have Saturday School January 15th. This will be the last Saturday before the end of the Quarter on January 20th.
  1. January 20th is the last day of the 2nd quarter. This is a two-hour early release day.
  1. Due to the uptick in COVID numbers in the area, FCPS will only be allowing immediate family members to attend sporting contests and concerts. We will reevaluate this policy when the numbers fall.
  1. The NOVA Early Online College Program student help session is rescheduled for Monday, January 10. This session will be held virtually at 4 PM. A meeting link will be sent to students. Registration for this program is 1/14. There was a Naviance email sent out to juniors and seniors in late December about this program.
  1. School counselors will begin the exciting process of course registration for school year 2022-23! Students will have an opportunity to visit 4 classes to explore course offerings during our Course Kick-Off on January 26 and beginning January 28th, our students will begin registering for courses. We encourage conversations! This is another opportunity for you to learn more about your emerging young adult. We will post course options and Course Kick-Off options.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Litz
