Student Achievement Goal - Academics

All students will be literate, able to obtain, understand, analyze, integrate, communicate and apply knowledge and skills to achieve success in school and in life. Academic progress in the core disciplines will be measured to ensure that all students, regardless of race, poverty, language or disability, will graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary for college and/or employment, effectively eliminating achievement gaps.

George C. Marshall High School has demonstrated consistent levels of high performance on the Virginia Standards or Learning (SOL) Assessments, International Baccalaureate (IB) Assessments and increased Participation in our IB Program.  We will collectively focus on three areas in the next three years (2017-2020):

1. Student Performance focused on growth and reducing Gap Group 1
2. Increasing Collective Teacher Efficacy
3. Equity

End of Year SMARTR Outcomes for 2018-19

• Academy 
  • 81% or higher pass rate on the Workplace Readiness Skills Assessment for ESOL and SPED students
• English
  • At least 85% of students will successfully complete their junior year IB IA and written assessments (Written Assignment and/or Written Tasks) during the junior and senior years with a 4 or higher.

  • 100% of students enrolled in English 9 and 10 (both standard and honors) will earn at least a 3 on a Paper 1-style rubric

• ESOL
  • By May 2019, 80% of returning students with ELP levels 1-4 will experience an increase in their reading and writing scores by at least one level.
  • By May 2019, 85% of returning students with ELP levels 1-4 will experience a growth in English proficiency by rising one ELP level in their overall WIDA composite score.
• Fine & Performing Arts

  • Recruit, and retain diverse, academically talented students who seek intellectual rigor, unique experiences, and the benefits of a community that prepares them for advanced education opportunities in IB classes. Enrollment in IB Art and Music will increase by 20% over the next 3 years.

• Health & PE

  • All 9^th/10^th grade CTs will guide their H/PE students in creating an online Fitness Portfolio to include Fitness Scores, SMARTR goals, reflections on goals and artifacts aligning with specific standards with 85% of students earning a proficient score or higher based on the 9th/10th rubric.

• IB

  • Maintain or increase the percentage of IB Diploma Candidates who earn the IB Diploma.

• Math

  • IB Math course enrollment will increase by at least 20 students (one section) for the 2019-2020 school  year as measured by student schedules and total enrollment. 

  • 93% of all 9^th grade Algebra I students will pass the Algebra I SOL in May 2019.

  • In Geometry, at least 15% of Group 1 students will achieve Pass Advanced on the May 2019 SOL.

  • In Algebra 2, at least 33% of Group 1 students will achieve Pass Advanced on the May 2019 SOL.

• Science

  • Increase the SOL Advanced Pass Rate rates for students in Group 1 to:

    • Biology 52%

    • Chemistry 42%

    • Earth Science 17%

• Social Studies

  • Group 1 student population in Honors/IB classes will continue to increase year-over-year by at least 3% per year, from 2018-2020.

• Student Services

  • During the 2018-19 school year, counselors will support this cohort as they complete Pathway applications, other college applications, and/or job applications to ensure they have finalized plans for after graduation.

• World Languages

  • Historically, 25-30% of students who begin the year in the C-, D and F range get the same grade Q4 as they had in Q1.  By the end of the year, 86-93% of students in the C-,D and F range who show some improvement by Q4.
