Marshall High School’s Statesmen Theatre to Present Metamorphoses 

by Mary Zimmerman, Based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses

 

Falls Church, Virginia – October 23, 2024 – Marshall High School’s acclaimed Statesmen Theatre is proud to announce its upcoming production of Metamorphoses by Tony Award-winning playwright Mary Zimmerman. Based on the Metamorphoses of Ovid, this visually stunning and emotionally rich play will be performed from Thursday, November 14th through Sunday, November 17th at the George C. Marshall High School auditorium in Falls Church, VA.

 

Metamorphoses brings the timeless myths of Ovid to life, exploring themes of love, loss, transformation, and the power of storytelling. Zimmerman’s adaptation is renowned for its unique staging, which incorporates a central pool of water, symbolizing change and fluidity. The play weaves together ancient myths with contemporary language, making the stories of gods, heroes, and mortals feel relevant and resonant for modern audiences.

Our cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring these myths to life in a way that is visually captivating and emotionally compelling.”

 

The production features a talented cast of Marshall High School students, who will bring to life iconic characters such as King Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice, Aphrodite, and Narcissus. The imaginative set design, under the leadership of Mr. Maaty, and the use of water as a key element on stage promises to create an unforgettable theatrical experience.

 

Metamorphoses premiered on Broadway in 2002 and received widespread critical acclaim for its innovative storytelling and staging. It was nominated for several Tony Awards and won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play. This production by Statesmen Theatre offers a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience a work that has captivated audiences around the world.

Ticket Information:

Tickets are available online at ETix.com or can be purchased at the door. Prices are $20.00 for general admission, $15.00 for students, and $15.00 for senior citizens. Seated will be on stage and limited to 100 audience members per show. Limited accessible seats will be provided.
